11/5/2009 - Women's Volleyball
The top-seeded Endicott women’s volleyball team lost just one TCCC match all season long, a 3-0 setback to Roger Williams University back on September 19th. On Thursday night the Hawks proved the early season victory was no fluke, as fourth-seeded RWU pulled the upset and knocked off the three-time defending TCCC Champion Gulls in a 3-0 sweep in Beverly, Mass. Roger Williams used set scores of 25-22, 25-22 and 25-20 to improve its record to 20-10 and advance to Saturday’s conference final.

Endicott’s Allyson Bellemore (Manchester, N.H.) scored in the 72nd minute to break a scoreless tie, as the Gulls edged North Shore rival Gordon College, 1-0, in The Commonwealth Coast Conference semifinals on Wednesday afternoon in Beverly, Mass. The victory extends a pair of streaks for the Gulls, as Endicott has now held its opposition scoreless for a nation-leading 990 minutes and the Blue and Green will appear in the conference finals for a ninth-consecutive season.

For the seventh consecutive season, the New England College field hockey team got the better of the Endicott College Gulls in The Commonwealth Coast Conference playoffs, as the Pilgrims advanced to the TCCC finals with a 2-1 victory over Endicott College on Wednesday afternoon in Beverly, Mass. NEC improves to 14-7 this season while Endicott falls to 11-8 and will hope for a bid to the ECAC Tournament.

Endicott’s Elyse Barbour (Greenville, R.I.) had eight kills on just 11 swings with no errors (.727) as the Gulls cruised past visiting Regis College, 3-0, in The Commonwealth Coast Conference quarterfinals on Tuesday night in Beverly, Mass. Endicott posted set scores of 25-15, 25-11 and 25-14 to advance to Thursday’s semifinals against Roger Williams University, who defeated the Univ. of New England by the score of 3-0.

The Commonwealth Coast Conference has announced its annual TCCC Women’s Volleyball All-Conference Team(s), and Endicott College has four players who received recognition. Senior outside Steph Wiese (Higganum, Conn.) was named a First Team selection, while Brittany Phillips (Sudbury, Mass.) and Elyse Barbour (Greenville, R.I.) were honored as Second Team Honorees. Junior Ally Murphy (Gilford, N.H.) was also awarded Honorable Mention status at the setter position.

Endicott’s Steph Wiese (Higganum, Conn.) has been named The Commonwealth Coast Conference Player of the Week, while freshman Ashley Norley (Sudbury, Mass.) has been awarded TCCC Libero and Rookie of the Week honors, as announced by Commissioner Gregg M. Kaye on Monday. The pair combined to help the Gulls post a 3-0 record last week to secure the No. 1 overall seed in the upcoming TCCC postseason.

Endicott College limited the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth’s football team to three yards rushing and 105 yards of net offense en route to a 34-0 victory in a New England Football Conference Boyd Division game at Cressy Field Saturday afternoon. The Gulls racked up 339 yards in total offense and sacked UMass Dartmouth freshman quarterback Brendan McNeish (Springfield, Mass.) eight times.

TCCC Player of the Year Caitlin Flynn (Southold, N.Y.) factored in on all three Endicott goals as the Gulls cruised past Nichols College, 3-0, in a The Commonwealth Coast Conference Quarterfinal contest on Saturday afternoon in Beverly, Mass. The Blue and Green extend their nation-long consecutive minutes scoreless streak to 900:00, as the Gulls have posted nine-straight shutouts and did not surrender a single goal in the month of October.
