BEVERLY, Mass.- With anxious field hockey players overlooking the soon-to-be brick plaza and baseball players anxiously awaiting the arrival of spring, the Endicott Community held its dedication ceremony for the newly upgraded North Field.
Endicott's Homecoming provided the perfect setting for the dedication ceremony that has seen so much time and effort spent on this project. With the teams eager to step foot on the field for the first time, president Dr. Richard Wylie and Athletic Director Brian Wylie gave speeches that thanked everyone involved for making this goal become a reality. Whether it be the crews working until two in the morning under the stadium lights to get the turf and filler laid or the families that had it within their means to donate to the project, every deed involved in the conception and construction of this facility was acknowledged in the ceremony.
The new field is made of a synthetic turf which will play host to the field hockey and baseball programs year round. With permanent dugouts and wrap-around bleachers behind home plate, the facility can now offer prime accomodations for every fan that attends. Field hockey plays on a field that starts in left field and runs straight out to right-center. The artificial turf will allow both programs to play without the threat of rain outs and will provide the athletes with top-notch facilities.
As graduate student and baseball team member Colin Sitarz noted in his speech, most programs in New England are not able to start their season before spring break trips to warmer climates due to field conditions and inclement weather. With the artificial turf, the two teams, as well as intramurals and other varsity sports, can now practice and play early in the season and not have to worry about the field. Junior field hockey player Stacie Teevens echoed Sitarz' sentiments and thanked everyone who made it possible for the field hockey team to host their Homecoming game on the brand new field.
With players, students, families, donors and staff all on hand, the dedication ceremony made sure to thank all appropriate parties and wish both teams continued success in all future endeavors the park will host. The field hockey team was able to christen the facility in a big way as the Gulls were able to take down CCC rival University of New England 3-1. The baseball team hosts Saint Joseph's (Maine) for its first competition on March 2, 2013.
