BEVERLY, Mass. – Seven Endicott College football players were named to the 2009 New England Football Conference All-Division First and Second Teams, as announced by the NEFC offices on Monday morning. The Gulls had four First Team selections as well as three Second Team honorees.
On the defensive side of the ball,
PJ Bay (Darien, Conn.) and 2008 NEFC Defensive Rookie of the Year
Kevin Eagan (West Hartford, Conn.) garnered First Team honors for the Gulls, while
Jason Devonshuk (Derby, Conn.) was selected to the Second Team. Bay led the Endicott defense with three interceptions while finishing third on the team in tackles with 53. The junior also broke up three passes, recovered two fumbles, forced a fumble and blocked a kick.
Kevin Eagan was a force to be reckoned with in '09, as he led the Gulls in tackles (74), tackles for a loss (16.5) and fumble recoveries (3). The sophomore defensive lineman/linebacker also was fourth on the squad in sacks with 2.5. Devonshuk paced the Gulls with six sacks this season while also picking up 36 tackles and forcing a fumble.
Offensively, the Gulls’
Mike Lane (Medfield, Mass.) and
Nick Molinari (Staten Island, N.Y.) were selected to the NEFC First Team while
Sarkis Sarkisian (Peabody, Mass.) and
Colby Hawkins (Scituate, Mass.) garnered Second Team honors. Lane, the 2008 NEFC Offensive Rookie of the Year, rushed for 875 yards and seven touchdowns while also having 10 catches for 89 yards. The other feature back for the Gulls,
Colby Hawkins, rushed for 645 yards and five touchdowns. Molinari and Sarkisian anchored an offensive line that was eighth in the NEFC in both rushing and passing offense, all while only allowing 13 sacks, a figure good for fourth in the conference.
Endicott wrapped up this season at 5-5 overall including back-to-back wins over UMass-Dartmouth and MIT to end the season. The Gulls improved on a 3-7 mark from a year ago and look forward to its three First Team sophomore selections becoming upper classmen next year.
