Seven Gulls earn All-TCCC honors

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Seven members of the Endicott College women's lacrosse team were named to The Commonwealth Coast Conference All-TCCC Teams as announced by Commissioner Gregg M. Kaye on Wednesday afternoon. Valerie Feldman (Albany, N.Y.), Alex Pearce (Underhill, Vt.), Katie Leighton (Saco, Maine), and Molly Moss (Yarmouth, Maine) were all named to the All-TCCC First Team while Sara Gunter (Kennebunk, Maine) and goalkeeper Molly Hamel (North Yarmouth, Maine) were named to the All-TCCC Second Team. Sophomore Carin Czerniawski (Monroe, Conn.) received an All-TCCC Honorable Mention nod as well.

For the second consecutive season, Feldman and Moss were honored on the All-TCCC First Team. Feldman, an attacker, led the Gulls in goals (51), assists (22), and total points (73) while Molly Moss had a strong defensive season as she was fourth on the team in ground balls (33), second in draw controls (25), and second in caused turnovers (17). Pearce, also selected to the First Team, was second to Feldman in goals with 46 tallies and tied for second in assists with 10 helpers this season while also scooping up 28 ground balls. Katie Leighton returns to the All-TCCC First Team in 2009 after being given the same honors in 2007. Leighton picked up 36 ground balls this season while causing 15 turnovers and adding five draw controls.

All-TCCC Second Teamer Sara Gunter was third on the team in goals with 34. The senior also led Endicott in draw controls. Joining Gunter on the Second Team was Molly Hamel who has posted a 10-4 record between the pipes for the Gulls this season. Hamel has made 130 saves while facing 282 shots and has a solid .544 save percentage.

Carin Czerniawski scored Honorable Mention credits as she was second on the Gulls with 46 ground balls and led the team with 21 caused turnovers. Czerniawski also contributed on the offensive side with 15 goals and 10 assists, good for fifth on the Gulls' roster.

Student-athletes from ten different institutions in The Commonwealth Coast Conference were represented on the 2009 All-TCCC Women's Lacrosse Team. In addition to the all-conference team, winners of five major individual awards and the team sportsmanship award were also selected. Curry College junior Ashley Hansbury was named TCCC Offensive Player of the Year, Roger Williams University senior Jackie Criss was picked as TCCC Defensive Player of the Year, Nichols College freshman Krista-Jean Forand was chosen TCCC Rookie of the Year, University of New England's Amanda Barker was honored as TCCC Senior Scholar Athlete of the Year, Roger Williams University's Selina Collier was honored as TCCC Coach of the Year, and Salve Regina University was the recipient of the Team Sportsmanship Award.

Voting for the All-TCCC team and each of the major awards was conducted among TCCC women's lacrosse coaches.
