A Look Back at Crew, and Continued Investment for Fall 2009

A very bright future lies ahead for the Endicott College crew team. The women’s 4+, made up of a senior and four freshmen, competed in the inaugural New England Collegiate Rowing League (NECRL), holding their own against more experienced crews and drawing compliments from coaches around the league.  The team grew very close throughout the season, demonstrated excellent work ethic, incredible gains in technique and fitness, and took home a first place finish.

Head coach Brian Chorney was impressed by the way his relatively novice team performed in the spring. "We came a long way by competing in a regular schedule, purchasing jackets and new unisuits, fundraising, and even having an average 2000 erg time 20 sec faster than the team from last year.  With upperclassmen and women returning next season and new freshman coming in, I can't wait to see what happens when we add newer equipment and more experienced rowers into the mix."

Next up, the Crew team for Fall of 2009 will return to campus ready to pick up where they left off, and not just pick up the pieces.  At press time just one year ago, the team was on the brink of elimination, so to speak, and with Brian Chorney's leadership, has not only rebounded completely but has retooled through several fundraising initiatives and recruitment.  Adding a lightweight four, a wakeless coach boat, new ergometers, and affixing the names of this year's donors to the oars, high expectations await for those willing to work hard and strive for the glory of rowing success.
