Gulls get back to winning ways with 3-0 triumph over CCC foe UNE
BIDDEFORD, Maine - Senior Elyse Barbour (Greenville, R.I.), junior Falyn Torelli (Pelham, N.Y.), and sophomore Callie Dolan (Westford, Mass.) combined for 29 kills to help Endicott College snap a five-match losing streak with a 3-0 win over the University of New England in a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) match played Tuesday evening at the Campus Center. Set scores were 25-23, 25-17, and 25-18.
Trailing 23-20 in the opening set, Torelli served up the final five points to help rally the visiting Gulls. The tightly-contested first frame featured 10 ties and three lead changes.
Endicott would jump out to an early lead on its way to winning the second, before fighting off the Nor'easters in the third.
Barbour and Dolan had 10 kills apiece to pace Endicott (4-7, 1-0 CCC). Dolan added a solo block and a pair of block assists.
Torelli played a strong all-around match with nine kills, two aces, and five digs, while senior setter Sarah Allshouse (Berthoud, Colo.) fueled the Endicott attack with 36 assists. Defensively, junior Ashley Norley (Sudbury, Mass.) dug out a match-best 21 balls.
For UNE (2-9, 0-2), junior middle Paige Curran (Chelmsford, Mass.) racked up a match-high 15 kills to go with a pair of block assists. Sophomore Angie Brunette (North Andover, Mass.) contributed seven kills.
Sophomore Maria Kuehl (Middleton, N.H.) added 25 assists, eight digs and a pair of aces, while senior Abby Davis (Somersworth, N.H.) chipped in five kills and five digs.
Endicott is back at it Friday and Saturday at the MIT Invitational. The Gulls take on Tufts University (4 p.m.) and Smith College (6 p.m.) in opening-day play.
The Nor'easters travel to Gorham on Thursday for a 7 p.m. tilt at the University of Southern Maine.
