BRISTOL, R.I. – The Endicott women’s volleyball team made their seventh appearance in a conference final over the past eight seasons and appeared poised to make a run at their fifth CCC title, but Roger Williams rebounded from a first set loss to win 3-1 (26-28, 25-23, 25-17, 25-23).
The Hawks (28-3), who won their 19th match in-a-row, earned their second straight conference championship and move on to the NCAA Tournament with an automatic qualifying bid.
Endicott (15-15) now anticipates a berth into the ECAC Tournament with quarterfinal play expected to begin on Wednesday, November 9th.
In the championship’s opening set with the score tied 14-14, the Gulls ran off four straight points, two of which came on kills by sophomore Callie Dolan (Westford, Mass.), to take an 18-14 advantage. Endicott maintained a slim advantage until the Hawks rallied the set three times at 24, 25, and 26 points before the Gulls used another Dolan kill and a Roger Williams attacking error to win set one 28-26.
The second set saw the Blue and Green storm out to a 10-3 advantage, forcing Roger Williams to call a timeout. Endicott took advantage of seven errors by the Hawks, service aces by Hannah Dahlgren (Queensbury, N.Y.) and Falyn Torelli (Pelham, N.Y.), and a kill by Elyse Barbour (Greenville, R.I.) to score their first 10 points. Roger Williams, however, responded by scoring 13 of the next 18 points to take a 15-14 lead.
The Hawks went ahead 21-18 after kills by Krystie Luczynski (Kensington, Conn.) and Holly Hancock (Tilton, N.H.) before Endicott earned three straight points capped off by a pair of blocks by Barbour and senior setter Sarah Allshouse (Berthoud, Colo.). The Hawks, however, proceeded to regain the lead and with the score at 24-23 used a solo block by Hancock to take set two.
In set three, the two teams battled early on with Roger Williams holding a slim 12-10 lead midway through the set. After a Gull service error, the Hawks won six straight points with Luczynski on the serve to take a commanding 19-10 advantage. Endicott fought back to within five points at 22-17, but Roger Williams got kills by Luczynski and Kelsey Twarog (Barkhamsted, Conn.) and an ace from Kelsee Loche (Millis, Mass.) to move ahead 2-1 in the championship match.

Roger Williams outside hitter Marybeth Torpey (Quincy, Mass.) had four of the Hawks next five points on kills to put the home team ahead 20-17. Endicott was led by Dolan who had a team-high 12 kills. Barbour added 10 kills while Torelli and Dahlgren added eight and seven kills, respectively, in the loss. Allshouse dished out 26 assists.
Defensively, the Gulls were a force at the net, blocking 13 attacks as a team. Barbour had three solo blocks and four assisted blocks while Dahlgren and Dolan contributed with six and five assisted blocks. Libero Ashley Norley (Sudbury, Mass.) recorded a team-high 28 digs against a Hawks offense. Gillian Kucharski (Avon, Conn.), Allshouse, and Torelli each did their part defensively with 21, 14 and 13 digs.
For Roger Williams, Luczynski had a match-high 20 kills with Danna McDonald (Santa Monica, Calif.) and Torpey adding 18 and 13 kills each. Setter Emily Lebowitz (Coventry, Conn.) exploded for 60 assists for a Hawks offense that tallied 69 total kills as a team. Loche led all players with 33 digs while Hancock had seven total blocks, including two solo stops.
