Women?s volleyball cleans up the mess left by Irene
BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott women’s volleyball worked in conjunction with the physical plant department to help clean up the Beverly campus following the damage left by Hurricane Irene.
Fallen branches, leaves and brush caked the grounds around the Endicott pond and the thirteen-member women’s volleyball squad, along with head coach Tim Byram, spent an entire morning during their preseason assisting in the cleanup project.
“We were more than happy to help,” said senior captain Sarah Allshouse (Berthoud, Colo.). “Endicott has a beautiful campus and our physical plant department works hard to keep it that way. We felt like we were taking one less project off their hands so they could focus on other things they were doing.”
While much of the regional damage from Irene was in Western Massachusetts, the state experience hundreds of thousands of power outages that lasted for well over a week. Endicott, however, was lucky to have only minimal damage across campus.
“It is always a rewarding experience to do something that does not directly benefit you. We were helping to clean up our campus for the students that arrived to Beverly only a week after the storm hit.”
