Gulls notch first win, ground Golden Eagles

ORLANDO, Fla. - After dropping the opening doubles match 8-2, the Endicott College men's tennis team rattled off eight unanswered victories to down St. Joseph's, 8-1, on Friday afternoon in Orlando, Florida. The win marks the first of the year for the Gulls, who improve to 1-2 on the young season.
Dan Murray (Coventry, R.I.) and Josh Schoen (Phoenix, Ariz.) dropped the top-doubles match, 8-2, to Dan Celentano (Islip, N.Y.) and Steve Asti (Smithtown, N.Y.) to open the day. The Gulls fired back as Devon Locke (St. Croix, Virgin Islands) and Mike D'Ambra (Barrington, R.I.) downed John Funk (Lake Grove, N.Y.) and Nick Donadio (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.), 8-2. Scott Teller (Granville, N.Y.) and Scott Kitchen (Norwell, Mass.) closed out doubles play as they fired past Justin Russo (Lake Grove, N.Y.) and Andrew Bohem (Patcogue, N.Y.), 8-1.
It was all Endicott in singles play as Schoen, Murray, Teller, D'Ambra and Devon Locke all notched wins for the Gulls. Shawn Cadagan (Reading, Mass.) also got into the win column as the freshman scored his first win as a Gull, 6-1, 6-0 over Steve Mazzeo (Rocky Point, N.Y.).
Endicott wraps up its southern swing on Saturday morning as the Blue and Green take on North Central College at 11:30 a.m.
