SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Endicott men's tennis team blanked Western New England, 9-0, on Thursday evening in a conference matchup at the Volvo Outdoor Courts.
As doubles pairings, Kirkpatrick/Toler and Book/DeRizzo claimed 8-4 and 8-1 victories at the No. 1 and No. 3 positions, respectively, while in singles play Kirkpatrick claimed a gritty 6-1, 4-6, 10-6 triumph at No. 1. Meanwhile, Toler (No. 2, 6-4, 6-2), Book (No. 3, 6-4, 6-0), and DeRizzo (No. 5, 6-1, 6-2) all registered decisive victories over their opponents in their singles flights.
Nicholas Eherts (New Milford, Conn.) and Keaton McCleary (Charlotte, N.C.) concluded Endicott's doubles sweep with an 8-4 triumph at No. 2, while Sean McAndrews (Vineyard Haven, Mass.) and Thomas Brent (Gorham, Maine) handed their opponents losses at No. 4 (6-1, 6-0) and No. 6 (6-0, 6-0) singles, respectively.
"It always feels good to get the first conference win under our belt," said Endicott men's tennis head coach Jeremy Howard. "The only way to get a clean sheet against a consistent playoff team like Western New England is to perform well in all three phases of the game. We're onto Bentley, hopefully, weather permitting."
