BEVERLY, Mass. – Endicott freshmen Justine Hoover (Wallingford, Conn.) and Fernanda Trevino (Dallas, Texas) have earned Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) weekly awards, as announced by the league office earlier today. Hoover was named the CCC Women's Tennis Player of the Week, while Trevino was tabbed the CCC Rookie of the Week for their performances in matches played from September 3-9. Both honors are firsts for Hoover and Trevino, respectively.
Last week, Hoover contributed three wins in Endicott's first two matches of the season against Bridgewater State and Johnson & Wales. Hoover went 2-0 in singles play and 1-0 in doubles. Hoover opened the season playing the No. 1 singles spot against Bridgewater State and cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 victory. She then played in both the No. 2 singles and doubles spots against Johnson and Wales, winning both matches. Hoover also earned an 8-3 decision in doubles play, before another 6-0, 6-0 win in singles.
Meanwhile, Trevino made an immediate impact in her first two collegiate contests for Endicott, also helping the Gulls go 2-0. Trevino went 2-0 in singles play and 1-0 in doubles. Trevino started the week with a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 3 singles against Bridgewater State. She then contributed two points to her team's 9-0 sweep of Johnson and Wales (R.I.). She also won an 8-2 decision at No. 1 doubles and a straight-set win (6-2, 6-2) at No. 4 singles against the Wildcats.
Endicott (2-0) takes on Wentworth on Wednesday (Sept. 12) for its first conference matchup of the season at 3:30 PM. Wednesday's match will be played at Curry College in Milton, Mass.
