BEVERLY, MA - Nick Martinho (Middleton, MA/Malden Catholic) scored the winning run for Suffolk University in the top of the ninth inning that put the Rams ahead for good as they defeated the Gulls today 9-8. This win propels the Rams to a record of 22-18 while the Gulls drop to 23-20.
The Gulls fought back throughout the latter frames of the game scoring five runs in the seventh and eighth innings. Junior Erik Fields (Swampscott, MA/Swampscott) and sophomore Tom Warner (Hopkinton, NH/Hopkinton) each scored two runs during those innings. Warner doubled home Fields in the seventh and later scored on a bases loaded walk by senior Kevin Donahue (Reading, MA/Reading). In the next inning Fields scored on a throwing error while Warner scored on a wild pitch to tie the game 8-8. Also performing well for the Gulls today was junior Steve Vidmsko (Shelton, CT/Fairfield Prep). Vidmosko was the only repeat hitter for the Gulls as he had a pair of doubles and two runs scored.
Playing well for the Rams today were senior Jared Blandino (Dorchester, MA/BC High) who went 2-5 with two runs scored while sophomore Jordan Gunzy (Huntington, CT/Fairfield Prep) was 2-4 with a triple, a run scored and two RBI's. Junior Marc Exharopolous (Hudson, MA/Hudson) also had a good day 2-4 with two runs scored and two RBI's.
The Gulls next play in the NCAA Regional tournament that begins May 17, 2006. The seeding for the tournament will be announced on Monday May 15.
