WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – After a day one rainout, Endicott College opened its 2010 baseball season with a doubleheader sweep of New England foe Framingham State College on Sunday afternoon in Winter Haven, Florida. The Gulls waltzed through game one with an 11-0 victory, followed by a 5-4 win over the Rams.
\#Colin McGinn\# (Tolland, Conn.) helped lead the Blue and Green to a game one win as the senior righty tossed six innings of three hit, no run ball while striking out seven batters. Senior \#Aaron Santos\# (Cambridge, Mass.) went 2-for-4 in the opening game with two RBI on a bases-clearing triple. \#Joe Kasabuski\# (Saugus, Mass.) also had a pair of hits in his collegiate debut and tacked on three RBI in the winning effort.
Endicott batted around in the fourth inning, opening up a 0-0 ball game by scoring seven runs in the frame. The Blue and Green then added four more in the fifth to coast to the 11-0 win.
In game two the Gulls jumped out to a 3-0 lead with runs in both the second and third innings. Kasbuski laced a lead-off triple in the second before being pushed home by sophomore \#Mike Russo\# (Natick, Mass.). Endicott then manufactured runs in the third by advancing on stolen bases and a wild pitch, before senior catcher \#Joe Klein\# (Monroe, Conn.) connected on an RBI single.
Framingham responded with four fifth inning runs, only to have Endicott retake the lead for good in the sixth with doubles from \#Colin Sitarz\# (West Hartford, Conn.) and \#Andrew Betts\# (Bristol, Conn.). \#Rich Yutkins\# (Billerica, Mass.) came out of the bullpen in the seventh to lock down his first save of the season.
Betts and Sitarz each went 2-for-3 in game two. Betts also accounted for a pair of runs scored in the victory. On the day, Sitarz went an impressive 5-for-6 with three runs scored and totaled seven bases. Kasabuski had four RBIs in the two games combined.
Endicott returns to action on Monday when the Blue and Green face Westfield State at 9:30 a.m. and Denison at 3:30.
