BEVERLY, Mass. – Endicott rising junior Will Bryant (Cumberland, Maine) has signed a contract to play for the Sanford Mainers of the prestigious New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL) for the remainder of the summer collegiate baseball season.
Bryant joins an organization that has won two NECBL championships, and since 2003 has had more than 77 players drafted or play in professional baseball.
This past season, Bryant compiled seven saves for the Gulls over 21 1/3 innings pitched, alongside a 1.27 earned run average, and 18 strikeouts (7.59 K/9). Bryant also finished the year atop the leaderboard in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) in saves and No. 21 in all of NCAA Division III. For his efforts this season, Bryant was named to the D3baseball.com All-New England Second Team, and the CCC All-Conference First Team (both first career honors).
As a team, Endicott posted a 25-19 record overall, an 11-5 conference mark, and advanced to the CCC Championship for the second year in a row. Since 2010, the Gulls also have registered 25 wins or more, a span of eight straight seasons.
Bryant and the rest of his Sanford Mainers teammates (5-13) take on the Mystic Schooners (10-6) in Groton, Conn. at 6:05 PM. Fans can follow the action tonight, and all season long, at the NECBL's official website – www.necbl.com.
ABOUT THE NECBL
The NECBL was founded in 1993 under the leadership of Emmy Award-winning television producer/director Joseph Consentino, former St. John's University and Boston Red Sox minor league outfielder. George Foster, former Cincinnati Reds and New York Mets All-Star HR and RBI leader, was the NECBL's first Commissioner.
Play started in 1994 and today the NECBL has become a nationally recognized top-tier league that plays in all six New England states and recruits players attending U.S colleges from New England, the other forty-four States, and foreign countries.
The League starts its summer season in early June and plays an eight-week 42 game per team schedule. The League Championship is determined by a playoff in early August. Each year our top players are scouted and selected in the MLB Draft.
