BRISTOL, R.I. — Second-seeded Roger Williams eliminated third-seeded Endicott from Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Tournament play on Saturday evening with an 11-10 victory in 12 innings at Paolino Field.
With the win, Roger Williams (19-17-1) secured its spot in next weekend's CCC Championship Series. The Hawks will play either No. 4 Salve Regina or No. 1 seed Western New England on May 10-11 after a winner between the two previously mentioned programs is decided tomorrow (time TBD).
Meanwhile, as far as today's game went, the Gulls entered the top of the ninth inning trailing 9-6 but rallied to even up the score and force extras. Dan Cacciola (Saugus, Mass.) started the scoring with an RBI single, while Joseph Millar (Lake Hopatcong, N.J.) put the game at nines with a two-run base knock.
Both teams then exchanged zeroes on the scoreboard over the next two innings before the Gulls broke open the tie on a Benjamin Schena (Cheshire, Conn.) RBI single up the middle.
Roger Williams responded in the bottom of the frame, however, with a pair of runs to eliminate Endicott and advance to the CCC Championship Series.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Ryan Prosser (Holden, Mass.) belted a grand slam in the second inning to give Endicott a 4-1 lead, at the time. It was his first collegiate home run.
- Schena went 5-for-6 with one run scored and two RBI. The five hits were a career-high for Schena.
- Today's game was the third extra-innings contest of the season for the Gulls.
Endicott (22-18) hosts Salem State on Tuesday, May 7 at 3:30 PM.
