Baseball Downs Chicago, 10-4
AUBURNDALE, Fla. — The Endicott baseball team bested the University of Chicago, 10-4, in Thursday afternoon's RussMatt Invitational Matchup from Lake Myrtle Park.
WP (2-0): Brady Stuart (Hudson, Mass.) — 5 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 3 K
LP (0-1): Charlie Hahn (Glencoe, Ill.) — 0.2 IP, 0 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 3 BB, 0 K
The Gulls scored five runs in the bottom of the first and second innings without the benefit of a hit (five walks, four HBP's) to take control of the matchup early.
After surrendering a pair of Maroon homers in the first two innings, Stuart settled in for a solid five innings of work, (scoreless third, fourth, and fifth innings).
The 5-2 score remained until the bottom of the sixth rolled around, when Kyle Grabowski (Westfield, Mass.) crushed a fastball over the left field fence for a two-run bomb.
In the top of the eighth, the Maroon scratched across a pair, which closed the Gulls' lead down to three runs (7-4). The Blue and Green responded with three more in the bottom of the eighth to cushion their lead (10-4).
Trevor Kamuda (Groveland, Mass.) kicked off the eighth-inning rally with a leadoff walk, and later rounded the bases after three wild pitches.
Grabowski and Adam Regan (Braintree, Mass.) both also scored in the frame after Shea LaFleur (Salem, N.H.) rolled a two-run double down the right field line and into the corner.
With a 10-4 lead in the ninth, Matt Pappalardo (Pelham, N.H.) came on to close things out, and did so successfully via a scoreless inning of work (1 K, 1 HBP).
