Baseball Drops RussMatt Finale To No. 13/14 Rowan, 5-2
WINTER HAVEN, Fla. — The Endicott baseball team dropped its RussMatt Tournament finale to No. 13/14 Rowan, 5-2, on Friday morning at Chain of Lakes Field 3.
WP (2-0): Austin Kreyenhagen (Souderton, Penn.) — 8.2 IP, 8 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 12 K
LP (0-2): Evan Scully (Maynard, Mass.) — 4.2 IP, 7 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 1 BB, 4 K
SV (1): Ben Shild (Lincroft, N.J.) — 0.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 1 K
The Profs' pitching held the Gulls' offense to just two runs on 13 total strikeouts, thwarting many of the Blue and Green's scoring threats throughout the contest.
Starting pitcher Austin Kreyenhagen (Souderton, Penn.) stifled the Gulls through 8.2 innings of work. He fanned 12 Gulls hitters and allowed just eight hits and two earned runs.
In the first, the Profs put up a two-spot off of Scully via a two-run homer to right.
After that blip, Scully settled in, and did not allow another run over his next three innings.
The Gulls made it a 2-1 game in the top of the third after Shea LaFleur (Salem, N.H.) tapped a dribbler into no-man's land up the first base line, which plated Kyle Grabowski (Westfield, Mass.) for Endicott's first run of the day.
That was all the Blue and Green's offense could muster early on, and the Profs added three insurance runs over the fifth and sixth innings (two in the fifth, one in the sixth) to take a 5-1 lead.
With their final chance in the ninth, the Gulls strung together a mini rally, and James Benestad (Portsmouth, R.I.) drove in a run with an RBI single through the left side of the infield to chip away at the Profs' lead.
Unfortunately, the rally ended just one batter later, as the Profs closed out their 5-2 win via a strikeout.

- Third meeting between the two programs all-time (Rowan now leads the series, 2-1).
