Baseball Run-Rules Suffolk In Home Opener, 10-0 (8 Inn.)
BEVERLY, Mass. — The Endicott baseball team defeated Suffolk, 10-0 (8 innings), in Tuesday afternoon's Conference of New England (CNE) home opener from North Field.
WP (2-0): Max Jarvie (Wilton, Conn.) — 5 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 1 K
LP (0-2): John McDevitt (Auburn, N.H.) — 4 IP, 5 H, 5 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 2 K
SV (1): Ben Gill (Sanford, Maine) — 3 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 2 K
After a scoreless first two innings, the Gulls got their first run of the day in the bottom of the third thanks to Adam Regan's (Braintree, Mass.) solo blast off the rocks in left field.
The Gulls added four runs in the second, highlighted by Brenden Walsh's (Reading, Mass.) two-run single through the left side of the infield and Regan's RBI single in the same exact location. Trevor Kamuda (Groveland, Mass.) also picked up an RBI with a fielder's choice groundout in the frame.
In the fifth, the Blue and Green added three more via a Walsh RBI walk, a James Benestad (Portsmouth, R.I.) groundball double play to drive in a run, and a Kyle Grabowski (Westfield, Mass.) RBI hit-by-pitch.
Up 8-0 in the bottom of the eighth, Walsh fittingly delivered the final blow with another two-run single through the left side of the infield, securing the 10-0 mercy-rule walkoff win.
After Jarvie turned in five shutout innings from the mound (1 K, 2 H allowed), Gill followed up with three frames of scoreless relief (2 K's) to solidify the dominant two-hit pitching effort by the Gulls.
