No. 13/17 Baseball Holds Off Suffolk, 7-5
EAST BOSTON, Mass. — The No. 13/17 nationally ranked Endicott baseball team defeated Suffolk, 7-5, in Tuesday afternoon's Conference of New England (CNE) matchup from East Boston Memorial Park.
WP (2-3): Evan Scully (Maynard, Mass.) — 4.2 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 3 K
LP (0-4): Harry Meehan (Gilford, N.H.) — 6 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 2 BB, 5 K
The Gulls snatched an early 4-0 lead after the first two innings of play thanks to Kyle Grabowski's (Westfield, Mass.) first inning RBI double, and second inning run-scoring two-baggers from Paul Armstrong (Windham, N.H.) and TJ Liponis (Scarborough, Maine).
The Rams got one back in the bottom of the fifth, but the Gulls limited the threat and escaped further damage in the inning.
They capitalized on their momentum by tacking on two more runs in the top of the seventh via a sac fly from Grabowski and an RBI base-knock up the middle from AJ Hamm (Shrewsbury, Mass.).
Leading by 6-1, the Gulls looked to have the contest in firm control, but the Rams strung together four runs over the course of the seventh and eighth innings to draw within one.
In the top of the ninth, Endicott plated a key insurance run thanks to Jared Steckelman's (Ramsey, N.J.) RBI groundout.
Then, Scully returned to the hill in the bottom of the ninth and proceeded to retire the Rams in order to lock up the Endicott road win, 7-5.
