Garofalo Hat Trick and Pardue Shut Out Give Gulls Win
Nov. 5, 2005
"You've got to get up early to hunt goose eggs." A memorable line from the classic movie D3: The Mighty Ducks brought to mind by the Endicott shutout Saturday night against Bridgewater State, and called to attention by sophomore goalie Josh Provost.
It didn't take long for Endicott to take control of the game. Only 25 seconds into the game, sophomore Chris Garofalo let go of a hard, accurate shot from about the hashmarks, sending the puck over the goalie's blocker. Wasting no time, freshman Chris Linnehan, from a nice feed from sophomore Jeff Lallier, put in a second goal after making one move to make the Bridgewater defenseman look silly and another, almost toying with the goalie, to slide the puck into an open net. Not even a minute into the game and Endicott already had a 2 goal lead.
About a minute and a half later, the Gulls widened their lead on nice play by Senior Mark Vaughn to free the puck in the corner by kicking it to an open Mike Manfredi who skated behind the net, and made a quick pass to an open Rob Fruggiero who roofed the puck over the goalies glove for the third goal of the game. Towards the end of the first period, the Gulls added on another goal as sophomore Mike Ripley sent a picture-perfect pass from the point to captain Adam Partaledis, sitting wide-open on the opposite post.
At the top of the second period, Bridgewater came out with a vengeance, firing a flurry of shots at senior goalie Jeff Pardue. The Gulls responded quickly to end the Bears' hopes of a comeback. A minute and a half into the middle period, senior assistant captain Joe Dudek passed to an open Vaughn in the slot, who sent the puck through the keeper's legs for the fifth goal of the game. The Gulls scored one more goal in the second period off a rebound as Linnehan created the opportunity and Garofalo took advantage of it.
The Gulls refused to let up on the Bears in the final period despite their commanding lead. Sophomore Dennis Uhlman scored on a breakaway, making a pretty little move to his backhand and slipping the puck through the goalie's legs. Hungry for the hat trick, Garofalo got his third goal by skating down the wing and lifting the puck over the goalie's glove.
Rookies Rob Fruggiero and Ben Dodge connected to get the puck past the Bear goalie while Dudek gave the puck that little bit of help to get it over the line for the final goal of the game.
As always, the Endicott win came with the great goaltending, by Pardue, and hard-nosed play, led by the physical play of Kenny Dargon and playmaking of Manfredi.
Endicott's next game is against Southern Connecticut State Saturday, November 12th at Johnson Rink.
