Potent power-play leads Endicott over Northeastern
Oct. 18, 2008
HAMILTON, Mass. - Endicott College scored six goals, five on the power-play, as the Gulls posted a solid 6-3 win over Northeastern University on Saturday night in Hamilton, Massachusetts. The Gulls and the Huskies each fired-off 39 shots and combined for 56 penalty minutes in the contest.
Freshman Jesse Hester (Raymond, N.H.) opened the scoring on the power-play as he took a feed from Nick Colby (Salisbury, Mass.) and beat goalkeeper John Harris (Pleasanton, Calif.) 8:50 into the opening period for the 1-0 lead. Colby would strike again, this time on his own, as he doubled the Gulls' advantage with 5:41 left in the frame to give EC a 2-0 lead after one.
Northeastern capitalized on the man-advantage just 2:48 into the second as Telemaches Pasquale got the Huskies on the board off an assist from defenseman Kyle Oberkoetter, cutting the Endicott lead to just one. The Gulls responded with back-to-back goals from none other than Hester and Colby, quieting any Husky comeback thoughts.
Third period tallies from Christopher Delande (Rowley, Mass.) and the hat-trick completer from Colby sealed the Endicott win. Matt Murray (Billerica, Mass.) turned away 36 shots to notch his fourth win in five starts, while his counterpart Harris made 33 saves for the visiting Huskies.
Endicott returns to action with a busy weekend schedule ahead. The Gulls host Montclair State on Saturday night and then travel to Worcester, Mass. for a 7:00 p.m. face-off against Holy Cross on Sunday evening.
