Gulls fall to MIT in overtime, 3-2

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Endicott College men’s hockey team suffered a gut-wrenching, 3-2, setback in overtime at the hands of MIT on Wednesday night in Cambridge, Mass. The Gulls finished up the season at 10-14 overall and 3-7 in the NECHA.
Endicott’s \#Rob DiNicola\# (Wolcott, Conn.) got the scoring started in the second period as the sophomore gave EC a 1-0 lead on feeds from \#Kevin Bunting\# (Plantsville, Conn.) and \#Matthew Zimmerman\# (South Glastonbury, Conn.). The Gulls would hold onto their 1-0 lead until 14:51 remaining in regulation when MIT’s Dustin Kendrick knotted the game at 1-1.
The Engineers would grab a 2-1 lead six minutes later as Justin Myers scored on a feed from Kevin Farino with 8:22 to play in regulation. The Gulls would fight back however as Bunting tied the game at 2-all as DiNicola returned the favor and \#Matthew Zimmerman\# picked up his second assist of the game. Both teams would remain scoreless over the final 2:18 of regulation as the game spilled into an extra frame.
In the overtime, MIT’s Bill Near scored with 2:06 remaining to help the Engineers pick up the win on their home ice.
Stephen Yablonski picked up the win in net for the home squad while Endicott’s \#Mark Airoldi\# (Kennebunk, Maine) suffered the setback for the Blue and Green.
Following losses in its final two games, Endicott wrapped up its 2009-10 campaign at 10-14 overall and 3-7 in league play. The Gulls were 11-9-2 a season ago including a march to the NECHA Semifinals where the Gulls fell to Connecticut in that game.
