Men's hockey splits a pair of weekend games with Bryant

The Endicott men’s ice hockey team split a pair of games against Bryant University over the weekend. The Gulls took the first game in Smithfield, R.I., 3-2, on Friday before dropping a home game on Saturday. After the split, Endicott sits at 2-3-2 overall and 2-2 in the New England Collegiate Hockey Association (NECHA). Bryant is 2-1 overall and 1-1 in conference play.

Smithfield, R.I. – The Blue and Green found themselves in an early hole before scoring three unanswered goals to take game one of a home-and-home with Bryant University on Friday evening. The Bulldogs were first one board at 16:57 of the first period to take an early 1-0 lead. Endicott battled back with three straight goals over the next two periods and held on for a 3-2 win.
Andrew Roach (Boxford, Mass.) put the hosts on top in the early going after taking a feed from Chris Gaskell (Millbury, Mass.). Endicott answered six minutes later with a goal by junior \#Andrew Richardson\# (Lancaster, Mass.). Junior forward \#Rob DiNicola\# (Wolcott, Conn.) assisted on the play to even the score.
The Gulls took the lead for good with less than three minutes remaining in the second period. Senior captain \#Drew Bowden\# (Cumberland, Maine) hit sophomore forward \#Garrett Moore\# (Sudbury, Mass.) to put the visitors on top 2-1.
DiNicola doubled the Endicott lead in the opening minutes of the third period after taking a pass from freshman forward \#Cameron MacLeod\# (Hampton Falls, N.H.). Bryant trimmed the lead to one with five minutes remaining but was unable to find the equalizer and lost for the first time this season.

Hamilton, Mass. – Bryant University stormed out to a 4-0 lead through the opening 12 minutes of the first period and never looked back en route to a 7-4 win over Endicott. The visitors avenged a loss one day earlier on their home ice and improve to 2-1 in NECHA play. Endicott stalls at 2-2 in the conference.
The Bulldogs opened the scoring at 16:58 of the opening period and quickly doubled their lead six seconds later. Two more goals doubled the Bryant lead midway through the first period.

Sophomore forward \#Travis Dion\# (Saco, Maine) tallied an unassisted goal early in the third period to cut the deficit to 7-3.

Freshman goalie \#Blaine Thibodeau\# (Peabody, Mass.) inherited a 6-1 deficit in the second period but kept the game within reach by making 32 stops over the next 35 minutes. He allowed just one goal during that time.
The Gulls return to the ice on Friday when they travel to Storrs, Conn. for a conference game against the University of Connecticut. The team returns home one day later to host Merrimack College.
