Gulls top Northeastern, pick up first win of the season

Hamilton, Mass. – The Endicott men’s hockey team picked up its first win of the season in the form a 3-1 victory over visiting Northeastern in a New England Collegiate Hockey Association (NECHA) game Saturday night. The Gulls remain unbeaten at home (1-0-2) and improve to 1-2-2 overall (1-1 NECHA).
\#Matthew Zimmerman\# (South Glastonbury, Conn.) opened the scoring midway through the first period. \#Kevin Bunting\# (Plantsville, Conn.) and \#Andrew Richardson\# (Lancaster, Mass.) assisted on the power-play goal to put the Blue and Green on top, 1-0.
With less than three minutes to play in the opening period, senior captain \#Drew Bowden\# (Cumberland, Maine) tallied an unassisted goal to double the lead entering the first intermission.
Both teams played to a scoreless second period before trading goals in the third.
Northeastern’s Zack Croy (Belmont, Mass.) and John Martiniello (Mahwah, N.J.) found Will Swasey (Concord, N.H.) for a goal to trim the lead to one at 17:11.
The Gulls’ \#Cameron MacLeod\# (Hampton Falls, N.H.) responded moments later with a goal at 16:30. \#Ryan Pratt\# (Waltham, Mass.) and \#Tad Gold\# (Vineyard Haven, Mass.) assisted on the play, which put the Blue and Green on top 3-1, a lead Endicott would not relinquish.
The Gulls return to action this weekend with a home-and-home against NECHA-foe Bryant University on Friday and Saturday night.
