BEVERLY, Mass. – Twenty-two members of the Endicott women’s basketball team volunteered their time this past Sunday at the annual Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk in Boston.
The group split their time between offering helping hands at a
refueling station on Beacon Street and holding posters and cheering
on the walkers in Kenmore Square. The student-athletes switched
stations halfway through their volunteer time, which ran from 11 AM
to 6 PM.
“It was a great event,” said Endicott women’s basketball head coach Brittany Hutchinson. “The team had a lot of fun donating their time and it was a great bonding experience.”
Hutchinson organized the community service trip with a coordinator at Dana Farber Cancer Institute who met the team on Sunday and was impressed with their support and enthusiasm.
“She had endless positive things to say about the energy that the ladies brought and wanted to make sure she kept in touch with us for future walks,” said Hutchinson.
The event, which followed the 26.2 mile course of the Boston Marathon, raised over 7.5 million dollars for cancer research.
