Equestrian Rides Well at BU and Regionals
Hanover, MA-- On Sunday, April 3, the Equestrian Team did a "double header". Rained out by the miserable weather on Saturday, the Boston University Show was held prior to the Regional Finals held later in the day.
Four seniors competed in the final show of their IHSA Career. Liz Duboc, Co-Captain, did it in a spectacular way, winning her Novice Fences class and garnering a third in her Novice Flat class. Sarah Ireland, Corrie Felton and Caitlyn Pilch said "good-bye" to intercollegiate competition as well.
A note of explanation:
In the IHSA, competitors earn points for each ribbon they win: 7 points for a first place, 5 points for second, points for third, etc. Once a rider earns 35 points the rider advances to the next level. When the rider moves up, it is called "pointing out" and he/she automatically qualifies for Regional Finals.
Endicott started the day with two rider qualified for Regional: Olivia Koines in Intermediate Flat and Megan Piermarini in Novice Flat. Good riding by Megan Piermarini in Novice Fences, Karissa Bonner in Novice Fences and Caitlyn Pilch in Novice Flat allowed them to "point out" and ride in Regionals later in the day.
In Regional Competition Endicott fared well, with Megan Piermarini winning the Novice Fences Regional Championship and Caitlyn Pilch winning the Novice Flat Regional Championship. By winning their classes, the Endicott riders earned the honor of representing Endicott in Zone finals against the winners and reserve (second place) winners from the 3 other regions in Zone 1. Zone 1 finals will take place on Saturday, April 9 at Stoneleigh Burnham School in Greenfield, MA. Winners at this event will compete in the National Competition in May.
At the end of the Regional Competition the year-end placements were awarded. Endicott came in fifth, mainly because the team elected to skip a show due to dangerous weather conditions.
It was also announced that Endicott College has been elected the new President School for Region 4, replacing Boston College. Coach Stephanie Andreottola will be the new president.
