Endicott Falls in the Battle for Boyd Title

Endicott Falls in the Battle for Boyd Title

Oct. 23, 2004

The Endicott College Gulls entered today's game undefeated in the NEFC Boyd Division. The Gulls fought a long hard battle in front of a large homecoming crowd before succumbing to Curry College, 32-7. With the win, the Colonels hold a half game lead over EC for first place in the NEFC Boyd Division.

A fumble in the Endicott red zone early in the first quarter, gave Curry excellent field position, setting up Patrick Leonard (Londonderry, NH) for a 5 yard run to give Curry the early lead. The Colonels struck again with 4:09 left in the second quarter. Leonard capped off the first half scoring with a 2-yard touchdown run. Senior Alan Bartolini (Southboro, MA) rushed for the 2-point conversion.

Sixteen seconds into the second half, Endicott defensive back Orlando Johnson (Newport, RI/ Rogers) leapt high into the air collecting his third interception of the game at the Endicott 45 yard line. With one of the most impressive catches of the afternoon, Johnson helped prompt the Gulls offense. On the same possession with the Gulls on 4th and 2, Alex Smith (Winthrop, MA/Winthrop) handed off to Matt Thompson (Clinton, MA/Clinton) for a 36 yard touchdown run, giving the Gulls their first points of the day and narrowing the Curry lead to 15-7.

A 24-yard field goal was added by Dave Vincent (Grafton, MA) to increase Curry's lead to 18-7. Later in the 3rd quarter, Jarred Jordan's (Framingham, MA) 1-yard carry resulted in another Curry touchdown. In the 4th quarter, Curry struck one last time with Leonard's third touchdown of the day on a 2-yard run.

Sophomore Joe Leaver (Stoughton, MA/Stoughton) led the Endicott defense with seven and a half tackles, two of which were for losses. Johnson finished the game with 5 solo tackles. Endicott freshman Adam Labbe (Litchfield, ME, Oak Hill) punted for a total of 306 yards with a long punt of 57.

Curry (6-1, 4-1 NEFC Boyd) travels to Western New England College on Saturday with a chance to clinch the Boyd title for their second straight year. Endicott (4-4, 3-1 NEFC Boyd) plays in their final home game of the season Saturday against Nichols College. Kick off time is 2:30 pm following an 11:00am CCC quarter-final home soccer match for the Endicott women.
