Four Gulls Earn Conference Honors

BEVERLY, Mass. - Four Endicott College football players were recognized with Boyd Division honors, as announced on Tuesday by the New England Football Conference league offices. Defensive lineman Kevin Eagan (West Hartford, Conn.) was named NEFC Boyd Division Defensive Rookie of the Year, as well as First Team All-Boyd Division. Running back Mike Lane (Medfield, Mass.) was also honored as the Offensive Rookie of the Year in the Boyd Division for his standout freshman campaign. Sophomore Mike Dillon (Cheshire, Conn.) and junior Timothy Viall (Sandwich, Mass.) were named Second Team All-Boyd Division.
Eagan led the Gulls with 99 tackles on the season, including 12.5 for a loss. He was also the top pass rusher for Endicott as he had a team high 4.5 sacks. The freshman finished sixth in the conference in tackles as well as tied for ninth in sacks. Eagan's best game of the season came against Plymouth State as he had 16 tackles against the eventual NEFC champions.
Mike Lane took over the lead back duties midway through the season and did not disappoint. Lane finished the season with 1005 all-purpose yards and seven total touchdowns. The freshman led the team in rushing with 698 yards as well as rushing touchdowns with five. For the season, Lane had four 100-yard rushing days including rushing for 160 yards and two touchdowns against UMass-Dartmouth on November 1st.
Mike Dillon was selected to the Second Team All-Boyd Division team for having 59 tackles on the season, good for third on the team. Dillon also had an interception this season and two sacks. His best game of the season came against Nichols College as he had 15 total tackles including a sack. Dillon also finished 16th in the Conference in tackles.
Junior Timothy Viall was also named Second Team All-Boyd Division at the tight end position. Viall finished third on the team in receptions with 17 and second on the team in receiving yards with 252. His five touchdowns this season left him tied for second on the team and his best game of the season included a season high 89 yards receiving and a 21-yard touchdown against NEFC power house Curry College.
Endicott College wrapped up the season at 3-7 overall and 2-5 in the NEFC Boyd Division. The future of the team appears bright as the team won Rookie of the Year on both sides of the ball. All four players hope to return next season for the Gulls who look to return to the top of the Boyd Division.
