BEVERLY, Mass. – USA Football News presented its 20th Annual USA College Football Division III Preseason All-American Teams and Endicott's Jason Silva (Maynard, Mass.), Peter Kallas (Beverly, Mass.) and Mike Murphy (Chelmsford, Mass.) were listed among the honorees.
The teams are selected by coaches, sports information directors, certified players' agents, pro scouts, national media reporters and staff of USA Football News. Silva and Murphy make their second appearance on a Preseason All-American list after both getting the nod from Beyond Sports Network in early July. This is the first award with preseason national recognition for Kallas.
Silva is a Second Team honoree at the defensive back position. The junior recorded six interceptions with six pass breakups last season, ranking him among the nation's leaders. He made 30 tackles, 14 unassisted, and recovered two fumbles. Silva was named to the NEFC Boyd First Team, ECAC DIII North First Team, and the BSN All-American Third Team.
Murphy, coming off a record-breaking 2011 season, was placed on the Third Team as a wide receiver. Murphy caught a team-leading 44 balls for 843 yards and seven touchdowns. He averaged 19.2 yards per reception and 76.6 yards receiving per game. He set program records for receiving yards in a game with 202 on October 1st against Curry. Murphy was named to the NEFC Boyd First Team.
Kallas joins Murphy as a Third Team linebacker after ranking second on the team last season with 63 tackles. Twenty-two tackles were solo and 7.5 went for a loss of yardage including one sack. He forced two fumbles and recovered one. Kallas was named to the NEFC Boyd First Team in his junior season.
