NEWPORT, R.I. – Endicott junior outside linebacker Connor McLaughlin (Canton, Mass.) and freshman free safety Allen Gibson (Seymour, Conn.) have both earned their first career weekly awards from the New England Football Conference (NEFC) for their efforts in last weekend's victory against Maine Maritime. McLaughlin was named the NEFC Defensive Player of the Week, while Gibson picked up NEFC Defensive Rookie of the Week accolades.
Chris Lipscomb (West Springfield, Mass.), Kyle Regan (Nashua, N.H.), and Shane Toland (Canton, Conn.) were also recognized on the NEFC weekly report as each student-athlete received honorable mention laurels.
NEFC DEFENSIVE WEEKLY AWARDS
McLaughlin spearheaded Endicott's defensive efforts in its 37-14 win over Maine Maritime with a career-high 14 tackles (six solo, eight assisted, 0.5 TFL, 0.5 sack), and his first career interception – which occurred at the Endicott goal line to stymie the Mariners from scoring a game-tying touchdown in the first quarter.
Gibson also played a key role in Endicott's victory against the Mariners as the freshman free safety compiled a career-high six tackles (five solo, one assisted). Gibson's final tackle of the contest prevented a Hail Mary touchdown pass at the Endicott two-yard line (44-yard reception).
Collectively, the defense as a whole held Maine Maritime's No. 5 ranked rushing offense (NCAA Division III) to 60 yards under its season average (344.4 season average/283 yards rushing), and recorded four interceptions in the victory.
NOTE: Since the NEFC Defensive Rookie of the Week award was created this season, an Endicott student-athlete has earned the honor every week (William Rivera five times, Drew Jones & Allen Gibson once).
WEEKLY HONOR ROLL RECIPIENTS
Lipscomb excelled in all facets of the game in the Gulls 37-14 win over Maine Maritime compiling 136 all-purpose yards (43 yards rushing/77 yards receiving/16 punt return yards), and 117 yards punting (39.0 average/53 long/three inside the 20). Lipscomb's day was highlighted by a fake punt that he converted from a fourth-and-two situation at Endicott's 40-yard line into a 43-yard rush and a first down that led to a go-ahead touchdown for the hosts (14-7). The Gulls never relinquished the lead after that point.
Regan converted all four of his PAT attempts and went 3-for-3 on his field goal attempts on the afternoon (22-yards, 32-yards, 33-yards) to aid the Gulls to a 37-14 win over Maine Maritime on Saturday.
Toland guided an offensive line that aided Endicott's offense to its third-highest total output this season with 124 yards rushing (3.3), and 245 yards passing (7.9) in the Gull's 37-14 win over Maine Maritime.
