Gulls Open Season With A 3-2 Win Over Salem State
Sept. 4, 2003
Salem, MA - Endicott field hockey kicked off their season today with a win away against non-conference opponent Salem State (Salem, MA.). Both teams were eager to play despite poor field conditions due to the rain, and Endicott came out strong taking two solid shots on goal within the first 2 minutes. Endicott junior captain Jen McCormack scored the first goal of the game off of a well placed assist from junior Kim Doody. Salem State answered with a goal of their own to tie the score at one all. Endicott rallied at the end of the first half to reclaim the lead as freshmen Jamie Sebastian found the back of the cage off of a pass in from sophomore Ashley Wallace.
Again, Salem State was able to score to tie the game at 2-2 as the first half ended. In second-half play, Salem State had an opportunity to take the lead when they were awarded a stroke. Endicott senior goal keeper Kelly McNamara stepped up and made the save one-on-one.
Junior KD Balentine scored Endicott's third and final goal of the game with just 4:30 minutes left in the contest. Endicott held their lead to finish the game with a score of 3-2, recording their first win of the 2003 season.
