EC Shuts Out Fitchburg State, 1-0
Oct. 7, 2004
EC field hockey continued its winning style today with a 1-0 victory over the Fitchburg State Falcons in a non-conference match up at EC's Tupper Field. The win today marks a five game winning streak for the Gulls and improves their overall record to 8-4, while the Falcons' overall record drops to 7-3.
The Gulls out shot the Falcons 18-5 in the first half, but it was freshman Jen Rheamue who captured the lone goal for Endicott. The goal was scored with 13:57 remaining in the first half in a scramble in front of Fitchburg's goal. Rheamue was able to find the back of the net to put EC on the scoreboard first.
Going into the second half, the Gulls turned up the pressure on Fitchburg's defense. The Gulls out shot the Falcons again in the second half 23-9. A penalty stroke was award to the EC offense after the Falcons' goalkeeper, Christina Charron, misplayed the ball giving EC a chance to secure the lead. Senior Kim Doody attempted to capitalize on the penalty stroke, but Charron made a glove save to keep the score to a 1-0 EC lead. In the end it was Rheamue's goal that held EC's lead for the remainder of the game. The Gulls' sophomore goalkeeper Erin Curry tallied fourteen saves for the game and captured her fourth shut out of the season.
EC field hockey returns to action at Tupper Field on Tuesday October 12th at 3:30pm for a non-conference game against Bridgewater State College
