EC Field Hockey on Fire
Oct. 16, 2004
When the EC field hockey team stepped on to the field today at Regis College, they came out on fire. Endicott defeated Regis 7-1 in today's Commonwealth Coast Conference match up. Today's victory marks the 8th consecutive win for EC and improves their overall record to 11-4 and 4-1 in CCC play. The Pride dropped to 5-8 overall and 2-4 in the conference.
EC's first goal came 7:20 into the first half when junior Ashley Wallace crossed the ball to the left post where senior Jen McCormack was able to run onto the ball for a shot past the Pride's goalkeeper Isabel Hall. From that point on, the Gulls controlled the game. EC's second goal came 20:43 seconds into the first half on a well-executed penalty corner. The corner started with a pass from Caitlin Murray to Kaitlin Gomes. Gomes faked a defender and feed Wallace a pass to blast home EC's second goal. It was Wallace again who sent a rocket past Hall on a rebound shot to put EC up 3-0 with 5:26 left in the half. With just 2:04 left in the half, EC gracefully transitioned the play from the midfield up to the forward line with the help of Kaitlin Gomes and Jennifer Rheaume's passing patterns. Finishing this excellent play was senior forward Jen McCormack who found senior Kim Doody open to score and gave EC a 4-0 lead at half.
In the second half EC continued to dominate the play. 7:25 into the second half, EC hit the scored board again giving EC a five-goal lead. This time it was Kaitlin Gomes who found Caitlin Murray off the left post on a penalty corner to light up the scored board. Kim Doody scored her second goal of the game for the Gulls at the 15:39 mark. Doody was able to weave her way past three Pride defenders to blast a shot past Hall for EC's sixth goal. EC's final goal was scored just one minute after Doody's second goal. Senior forward KD Ballentine found sophomore forward Lindsay Fallon open to score EC's seventh goal.
The Pride would not give up with out a fight. With just 12:28 left in the game, Kimberly Luciani scored the Pride's lone goal on an assist from Judy Solar.
The EC defense was lead by senior Alison Beaulieu and sophomore goalkeeper Erin Curry. Curry tallied twelve saves for the game.
EC will travel to Henniker, NH on Tuesday October 19th to face the Pilgrim's of New England College for a regular season CCC match up.
