Gulls Fall to NEC in CCC Title Game

HENNIKER, NH - New England College Field Hockey captured the Commonwealth Coast Conference Championship Saturday afternoon defeating the visiting Endicott College Gulls 5-1.
The two team would battle closely through the opening fifteen minutes of play before NEC forward Amanda Lester (Columbia, CT) would opening the scoring, putting the Pilgrims up 1-0 at the 17:38 mark. The Pilgrims would take advantage of the momentum scoring three goals in a four minutes time span to go ahead 4-0 with just under ten minutes remaining in the first half. NEC's Jodie Dresser (Keene, NH) would add another Pilgrim goal with just forty seconds remaining in the half, giving NEC the 5-0 lead heading into halftime.
NEC would continue to control much of the offense in the second out shooting the Gulls 7-5 but the Gulls were able to hold off the Pilgrim attack turning away seven penalty corner opportunities. Endicott's Shannon Crotty (Delmar, NY) would get the Gulls on the board late scoring on a penalty stroke with 1:27 left in regulation.
Leading the way for NEC was Jodie Dresser who finished with two goals and an assist. NEC's Brittany Vogrin (Toronto, Ontario) chipped in two goals and Amanda Lester finished with a goal and two assists.
Picking up the win in goal for NEC was Jacqui Parker (Keene, NH) who finished with six saves. In goal for Endicott College was Erin Curry (Hampstead, NH) who had 11 saves on the afternoon.
With the win New England College will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Field Hockey Tournament, date and opponent are yet to be determined, while the Gulls will look forward to a likely invitation to the ECAC Tournament.
