First half surge lifts Eastern past Endicott
Aug. 30, 2008
WENHAM, Mass. - Eastern University used a three-goal outpouring in the first half to topple Endicott, 3-0, in non-conference field hockey action on Saturday afternoon in Wenham, Mass. The win marks the second in as many days for the Eagles, while Endicott falls to 1-1.
Yvonne Herbster (Middleburg, Pa.) got the scoring started with 26:40 showing on the clock as she found the back of the net to give Eastern the 1-0 lead. The Eagles doubled their advantage 14 minutes later as Amanda Maloney (Houston, Del.) snuck a shot past senior netminder Chelsea DeFeo (York, Maine) to extend the lead to 2-0.
Senior forward Kimberly Campbell (Malvern, Pa.) put the game out of reach for good as she put the Eagles up three just 6:00 minutes before the intermission. The three-goal lead proved insurmountable for the Gulls, as they fell for the first time this season.
Seniors Jennifer Beech (Devonshire, Bermuda) and Chelsea LaClair (Middlesex, Vt.) combined for four defensive saves, as the duo each notched two in the defeat. DeFeo also made four saves in the losing effort.
Endicott returns to action on Wednesday afternoon as it makes its home debut against Fitchburg State. Game time is slated for 4:00 p.m. in Beverly, Mass.
