SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Seven different goal scorers tallied strikes for Endicott College, as the Gulls downed Western New England College, 7-0, on Saturday afternoon in TCCC field hockey action in Springfield, Mass. The win moves the Gulls to 2-1 overall and 1-0 in league play, while the Golden Bears slip to 0-4 and 0-1 in the TCCC.
Sophomore \#Alexandra Parese\# (Wilton, Conn.) got the scoring started just 2:01 into the first half as she buried a rebound past freshman goalkeeper Katy Hall (Pawtucket, R.I.) for the early 1-0 lead. The Gulls’ doubled their advantage 12:07 later when \#Megan McBride\# (Saugus, Mass.) notched an unassisted tally for her second goal of the season.
A penalty stroke at the 17;21 mark by \#Joanne Reid\# (Clarksville, Md.) gave the Gulls a three-goal lead. The Blue and Green would add another marker before halftime, as freshman \#Melissa Enright\# (York Beach, Maine) secured the first goal of her collegiate career to send the Gulls into the intermission with a 4-0 lead.
Endicott’s young talent was on display in the second half as freshmen \#Hannah Thornberg\# (Oakland, Maine), \#Cassie DeSimone\# (Reading, Mass.) and \#Grace Ann Tomovish\# (Nantucket, Mass.) all found the back of the cage for the first goals of their respective careers.
Freshman goalie \#Taylor Teixeira\# (Exeter, N.H.) was called upon to make just five saves for her second win of the season. Her counterpart Katy Hall made 10 saves in the losing effort.
