Gulls Win CCC Opener Against Salve Regina, 4-2, Behind Strong Offensive Attack

MIDDLETOWN, R.I. – A pair of goals by sophomore midfielder/defense Emylee Wood (Kensington, N.H.) propelled the Endicott field hockey team to a 4-2 road victory over Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) foe Salve Regina University Wednesday night at Gaudet Field.

With the win, the Gulls move to 3-3 overall (1-0 CCC), while Salve Regina drops to 3-2, 0-1 in conference play.

The Gulls were down 1-0 early, as senior back Allison Gold (Greenlawn, N.Y.) stole the ball and flicked a shot that snuck past the right pad of senior goalkeeper Rose Bradley (Pottstown, Pa.) just 3:57 into the game.

Wood tied the game in the 15th minute (unassisted) and had the go-ahead goal just 10 minutes later (Ashleigh Allen).

The Seahawks rallied for a game-tying goal of their own as senior forward Abigail Tepper (Foxboro, Mass.) tallied her team-leading ninth goal of the season. She was assisted by senior midfielder Lindsey Mazzola (Upton, Mass.).

Sophomore forward Brittany Bushey (Pittsford, Vt.) scored the game-winning goal (Olivia Larson) for the Gulls in her first game of the season just seconds later to give the Gulls a 3-2 advantage at the half.

Freshman forward Sophia Cogliano (Saugus, Mass.) notched her fifth goal of the season on a feed from senior forward Morgan Bresnahan (South Burlington, Vt.) to round out the scoring for the Gulls in the 62nd minute.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE    

• Today's match saw Endicott take its fourth straight win over the Seahawks in conference play.
• In three of the last four games against each other, the Gulls have scored four goals.
• Bresnahan has recorded points in four consecutive games for the Gulls (four goals, one assist).
• Cogliano is now tied with Bresnahan as the duo pace the team with five goals apiece.
• Bradley saved 13 shots, which is the second-best effort of her career (14 saves against Babson on Sept. 4, 2015).
• Wood registered the first two markers of her career.
• Sophomore midfielder Emily Hirtle (Rowley, Mass.) earned the first defensive save of her career.
• The Gulls are 8-2 on the road at Salve Regina all-time.

FOR THE FOES

• Gold scored her first goal of the season.
• Tepper leads the team with nine goals on the season.
• Sophomore goalkeeper Jessie Severino (Branford, Conn.) (3-2) made 10 saves for the Seahawks in the losing effort.

NOTES

• The Gulls lead the all-time Endicott-Salve Regina series, 16-2-1, dating back to the teams' first meeting in September 2003.
• Endicott and Salve Regina have faced a common opponent this season in UMass Darmouth, with both schools losing 2-1 on their home fields.
