Field Hockey Remains Unbeaten in CCC with 2-1 Victory at Salve Regina

MIDDLETOWN, R.I. – The Endicott field hockey team remained unbeaten in their Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) schedule after handing Salve Regina a 2-1 defeat at Gaudet Field, Saturday afternoon on the road. The Gulls improved to 6-2 overall and 3-0 in-conference heading into a three-game homestand beginning on Tuesday night against NEWMAC rival Babson at North Field. 

With the score knotted at 1-1 in the 45th minute, Endicott junior forward Sophia Cogliano (Saugus, Mass.) beat the Salve Regina goalkeeper off an assist from senior midfielder Emily Hirtle (Rowley, Mass.) to give the Gulls the advantage. Endicott freshman goalkeeper Taylor Farrin (Danvers, Mass.) and the Gulls defensive backfield held the Seahawks at bay over the final 25 minutes to solidify the Endicott win. Farrin made four saves en route to her sixth win of the season. 

At the 18:05 mark of the first half, Gulls senior defender Emylee Wood (Kensington, N.H.) found senior midfielder Samantha Crowley (Leicester, Mass.) for the game's first goal to put Endicott up 1-0. Just over five minutes later, Salve Regina tied the score thanks to a goal by senior forward Amber Cody (Pawling, N.Y.), assist to freshman midfielder Kaity Gannon (Sloatsburg, N.Y.).

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

• Endicott improved to 10-3 in the regular season versus Salve Regina since the CCC implemented the two-game regular season, home and away series.
• In three of the last four seasons, Endicott and Salve Regina have split their regular season showdowns. 
• Cogliano's goal was her team-leading sixth of the season while her second game-winning goal of 2017 ties freshman teammate Jaylin Grabau (Lynnfield, Mass.) for the team lead.
• Hirtle now has four assists on the year while Wood registered her first of the season. 
• Crowley's goal elevates her season total to four which breaks her single-season high in her exceptional career. 

FOR THE FOES

• Cody's goal in the first half was her ninth of the 2017 season. 
• Seahawks senior goalkeeper Jesse Severino (Branford, Conn.) made nine saves in the loss and dropped to 4-3 on the year. 
• Salve Regina has now lost back-to-back games after winning three straight against CCC opponents Western New England, Gordon, and Roger Williams. 

WHAT'S NEXT 

Endicott (6-2, 3-0 CCC) returns home to face NEWMAC rival Babson on Tuesday, September 26 for a 7:00 p.m. start. Tuesday's game is the start of three consecutive home games for the Gulls. Salve Regina (4-3, 3-1 CCC) hosts conference opponent Nichols on Tuesday night for a 6:00 p.m. start.
