Walker's Debut Weekend Garners CCC Rookie of the Week Honors
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The first edition of the CCC weekly awards for the basketball season were released today and Endicott men’s basketball freshman guard Kamahl Walker (Worcester, Mass.) is the first Rookie of the Week helped the Gulls to a 2-0 start and a wins over Fisher and Wheaton (Mass.) to secure the Wheaton Invitational Championship.
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The first edition of the CCC weekly awards for the basketball season were released today and Endicott men's basketball freshman guard Kamahl Walker (Worcester, Mass.) is the first Rookie of the Week helped the Gulls to a 2-0 start and a wins over Fisher and Wheaton (Mass.) to secure the Wheaton Invitational Championship.
Walker, six-foot guard out of Bridgton Academy, averaged 15.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 3.5 assists with two steals over the weekend. He averaged a 42.1 FG% (8-of-19) and a stellar 86.7 FT% (13-of-15).
Walker shined in his first in the Blue and Green, putting up the most points in a freshman debut since junior teammate Andre Makris (Southbury, Conn.) netted 29 in his CCC Rookie of the Year winning campaign. Walker scored 23 against the Falcons, hitting 6-of-13 shots from the floor including two three-pointers while converted 9-of-10 free throw attempts. He grabbed five rebounds, dished four assists, and recorded a steal in 22 minutes off the bench for Endicott.
In Saturday's title game against the host Lyons, Walker got the start and contributed with eight points, three assists, two rebounds, and a steal in just 14 game minutes.
The Gulls won by double figures over both Fisher and Wheaton to solidify their strong 2-0 start to the 2013-14 season.
Walker and his Endicott teammates return to the court on Tuesday, November 19th for their home opener against Lesley. Tip-off is at 7:00 pm at MacDonald Gymnasium against their NECC opponent.
