No. 15 Men’s Basketball Withstands Resilient Wentworth Effort, 79-76
BEVERLY, Mass. — The Endicott men's basketball team defeated Wentworth, 79-76, on Wednesday night in Conference of New England (CNE) action at MacDonald Gymnasium.
Marcus Montagnino (Gloucester, Mass.) led all scorers with 34 points (14-19 FG, 1-2 3PT, 5-8 FT) alongside a game-high 10 rebounds and three assists.
Jeff Hill (Lynn, Mass.) also poured in 10 points to round out Endicott's double-digit scorers.
The remainder of the Gulls' starting lineup, including Elijah Kinney (Nashville, Tenn.), Caden Sullivan (Franklin, Mass.), and Matt Boen (Mansfield, Mass.), contributed nine, eight, and seven points, respectively.
A tight contest throughout, Wentworth held six different leads in the second half, highlighted by a five-point advantage on the scoreboard with 11:14 remaining (62-57).
Endicott continued to fight back, erasing its final deficit of the stanza with 6:46 to play (68-67) via a 12-8 run to close out the victory.
Montagnino guided the charge with seven points, while Hill produced five points in the spurt, including a crowd-raising three-pointer from the left corner with 2:20 on the clock to give the Gulls enough separation (77-70) down the stretch.
Despite leading for 31:23 of action, Endicott's largest lead was only 10 points (22-12, 10:46) as Wentworth shot 52.8 percent from the field — its second-highest output this season.
The second half saw the pendulum swing the most, considering tonight's matchup featured just two ties and eight lead changes.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Endicott is 41-11 all-time against Wentworth.
