BEVERLY, Mass. — The No. 7 nationally ranked Endicott men's ice hockey team defeated No. 8 UNE, 4-1, in Friday evening's ranked Conference of New England (CNE) showdown from Raymond J. Bourque Ice Arena.
After the Nor'Easters struck first at the 10:43 mark of the first, the Gulls took advantage of the tail end of a power play opportunity to even the score at the 13:02 timestamp. Sebastian Speck (Dryden, Mich.) followed up his own shot to beat the Nor'easters' goaltender glove side to put the Blue and Green on the board.
Then, after both teams had chances to take a lead in the second, the Blue and Green scored via a four-on-four with under two minutes to play in the period. Jack Costanzo (Gloucester, Mass.) began the push down the ice before dishing it back to Kyle Furey (Marblehead, Mass.), who wripped a wrist-shot from straightaway that banked off the back of a defender and into the net at the 18:13 mark.
The Gulls later added another goal just 2:48 into the third after Collin Kleiser (Churchville, Pa.) sent one center ice that Costanzo took all the way to point blank range and buried.
UNE earned a late power play chance and also pulled its goalie in a last-ditch effort, but the Gulls successfully killed the Nor'easters' power play, and shortly after, John Goldowski (Buffalo, N.Y.) potted an empty-netter (19:19) to seal the victory.
Peter Sterling (Manassas, Va.) improved his record to 12-1-0 after his stellar 30-save evening.
