Sterling Headlines Men’s Ice Hockey CNE All-Conference Honorees
BEVERLY, Mass. – Six members of the Endicott men's ice hockey team have earned Conference of New England (CNE) postseason honors, as announced by the league office earlier today.
Peter Sterling (Manassas, Va.) headlined the group, as the freshman netminder received CNE Goaltender of the Year, Rookie of the Year, and CNE All-Conference First Team accolades in a vote conducted by the league's head coaches.
Joining Sterling on the CNE All-Conference First Team were Louie Kamienski (Elmhurst, Ill.) and Kyle Furey (Marblehead, Mass.).
Meanwhile, Collin Kleiser (Churchville, Pa.) and Sebastian Speck (Dryden, Mich.) received CNE All-Conference Second and Third Team honors, respectively.
Brad Cox (Livingston, Mich.) rounded out the list of award winners for the Gulls with a selection to the CNE Community Service Team.
MAJOR AWARD WINNER
Peter Sterling | Fr. | G | Manassas, Va.
Goaltender of the Year | Rookie of the Year | All-CNE First Team
In 25 games played (24 starts), Sterling has compiled a 1.63 goals against average (GAA), a .932 save percentage, a 20-3-2 overall record, and five shutouts in 1,476:27 minutes played.
The rookie netminder's NCAA D3 ranks include: GAA (5th, 2nd CNE), shutouts (5th, 2nd), goalie winning percentage (6th, 1st), and save percentage (15th, 1st).
As for the Endicott single season program record books, Sterling currently ranks third all-time in most wins, sixth in saves (544), eighth in save percentage and GAA, and first in shutouts.
Additionally, Sterling is the first Gull in program history to claim Goaltender of the Year and Rookie of the Year honors in the same season.
He is also the first netminder to win Rookie of the Year accolades and the fifth Goaltender of the Year award winner in program history.
ALL-CNE FIRST TEAM
Louie Kamienski | Fr. | F | Elmhurst, Ill.
Kamienski leads the team in points (27) heading into the CNE Championship with 12 goals (tied for team lead) and 15 assists.
The freshman left winger also has two power play goals, two game-winning tallies, and one game-tying marker and a plus-22 rating on his stat sheet in 26 games played this season.
Kamienski ranks sixth in points per game (1.64) and ninth in goals per game (0.46) among all CNE skaters.
Kyle Furey | Sr. | D | Marblehead, Mass.
In 26 games played, Furey has notched three goals (1 GWG) and 18 assists (tied for team lead) for a total of 21 points.
The top line defenseman ranks fifth on the team in plus/minus (+24) and sixth in the CNE in assists per game (0.69, 60th D3).
He is the fifth defenseman in program history to earn All-Conference First Team honors.
All-CNE Second Team
Collin Kleiser | Jr. | D | Churchville, Pa.
Kleiser has produced five goals, 11 assists, 16 points, and a +21 rating in 23 games played.
The first line defenseman also ranks second on the team in blocked shots (23) and second among his position mates in points.
This is Kleiser's first career CNE All-Conference award.
All-CNE Third Team
Sebastian Speck | Fr. | F | Dryden, Mich.
The freshman forward has tallied eight goals and 16 assists for 24 points in 25 games played.
Speck has potted five game-winners on the year, which ranks third in D3, first in the CNE, and tied for first with four other skaters in the Endicott single season program record books.
He also has registered nine multi-point games this season and ranks fourth on the team in plus/minus at +26.
WHAT'S NEXT
No. 7 Endicott (20-3-3) heads to Biddeford, Maine, this Saturday to take on No. 5 University of New England in the CNE Championship at 7 PM.
