Sterling Named CCM/AHCA All-American
BEVERLY, Mass. — Endicott freshman goalie Peter Sterling (Manassas, Va.) has earned an American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA) Third-Team All-America honor as announced Thursday night.
Sterling becomes the first freshman in program history to be named an All-American. He is also the eighth student-athlete to earn the recognition.
Members of the American Hockey Coaches Association choose the CCM/AHCA All-American Hockey Teams. In total, there were just two freshmen selected among the 30 student-athletes on the All-American teams.
In 27 games played with 26 starts, Sterling compiled 21 wins, which ties the program mark for most wins in a single season. He also posted a 1.63 Goals Against Average with a .933 save percentage (615 saves). In addition, the Manassas, Va. native posted five shutouts, which is the program record for most in a single season.
He finished the season ranked No. 3 across Division III in Goals Against Average, t-3rd in Shutouts, 5th in Goalie Winning Pct., and 13th in save percentage.
In addition, Sterling was voted as just one of seven finalists for the 25th annual Joe Concannon Award, which is presented annually to the best American-born college hockey player in New England at the Division-II/III level. The award was won by Jonathan Surrette, a junior forward from Assumption University
The freshman was named Conference of New England (CNE) Goaltender and Rookie of the Year, along with being named to the All-Conference First Team.
SEASON IN REVIEW
Endicott finished its season with a final record of 21-4-3 and captured the CNE Conference Championship to earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. In the NCAA Tournament, they fell to Aurora, 3-2 (2OT).
