Gugino named Defensive Player of the Week
March 23, 2009
BEVERLY, Mass. - Endicott College face-off specialist Joe Gugino (West Hartford, Conn.) has been named The Commonwealth Coast Conference Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by TCCC Commissioner Gregg M. Kaye on Monday. Gugino helped keep the 6th-ranked Gulls unbeaten as Endicott traveled to Hoboken, N.J. and defeated Stevens Institute of Technology, 11-9, and then opened conference play with a 10-2 win over New England College on Saturday.
Gugino may have served as the catalyst in Endicott's 11-9 win over the Ducks, as the senior went 15-of-19 from the midfield X and scooped up a game-high 12 ground balls in the win. Joe followed up that performance by going 5-for-6 with four ground balls in the Gulls' 10-2 TCCC opening win over New England College on Saturday. For the week, Gugino went an astounding 20-for-25 (80%) in face-off attempts and scooped up 16 ground balls.
Endicott returns to action on Tuesday evening as the Gulls travel across town lines into Wenham, Mass. to take on rival Gordon College. Start time with the Fighting Scots is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
