CANTON, Mass. – The Endicott club men's rugby team captured the 2017 CCRC 7s Championship last weekend with impressive wins over five teams at the Irish Cultural Center. By winning the CCRC Championship, the Gulls have now qualified for nationals.
Endicott opened up the tournament with a dominant 45-0 win over Mass. Maritime before cruising past UMass Dartmouth, 35-12. The Gulls then fell to Salve Regina, 19-12, but bounced back against Wentworth (45-0) and Western New England (27-5) to earn a rematch versus Salve Regina in the title match.
In the CCRC championship, Endicott showed plenty of resiliency as the Gulls fought back from a 22-7 deficit with eight minutes to play to claim a 28-27 come-from-behind victory and capture their first-ever CCRC league championship.

"It was a great day for EC Rugby as we captured our first league championship," said Endicott club men's rugby head coach Dave Kenkel. "The boys never caved and once the rally started you could see it on their faces that they would not be denied. I have been around the sport of rugby for a long time and that match was one of the most exciting and well played matches I've seen. Salve is a fit, well coach team. I'm proud of the way we responded despite the adversity."
