Endicott Stumbles Against Bridgewater State
Sept. 28, 2004
The Endicott men's soccer team lost a close 2-0 match-up on the road versus Bridgewater State yesterday. The Gulls came into the game ranked ninth in New England, but saw their six-game unbeaten streak come to an end as they dropped to 5-2-1 overall, 3-0-1 in conference play. With the win the Bears improved to 3-2-1 on the season as they are unbeaten in their last three games.
The Gulls controlled the pace of the game in the first half but the Bridgewater counterattack gave them 8 shots on goal to EC's 5. Endicott pushed back numerous Bridgewater attacks and goalkeeper Colin Kemble kept the game scoreless heading into intermission.
In the second half, EC dominated the play and attack by registering 9 shots to Bridgewater's 2 and kept the opposition in their defensive end for a majority of the half. But the Bridgewater counterattack proved to be too much. Only 2 minutes into the half, Bridgewater's Mike Quinn (Weymouth, MA) sent a cross to the back of the Gulls net. EC responded by blasting shot after shot at BSC goalkeeper John Naughton (Braintree, MA) but to no avail. The Bears found a little insurance in the 64th minute as senior midfielder Topher Paone (South Easton, MA) headed in a sideline throw-in from fellow senior Phil Howe (Franklin, MA) to give the Bears a two-goal cushion.
The Gulls travel to Wentworth for a big Commonwealth Coast Conference tilt with the Leopards at 4:00pm.
