EC Drops Heartbreaker to Tufts, 2-1
Oct. 7, 2004
The Gulls dropped their fourth game of their past five, losing a close match up to Tufts tonight at home, 2-1. Regardless of the outcome, the game was a step in the right direction for a struggling Endicott team. The Gulls move to 6-5-1 on the season while Tufts extends their record to 4-3-1.
The first half was fairly even, as both teams played for possession. Freshman Elias Carrero and junior Dan Duvernoy led the attack for Endicott while sophomore Chris Croteau and senior Ryan Vigilant pushed back any Tufts attack. The lone goal of the half came off of Vigilant's foot at the 34:00 mark. Sophomore Brian Thopsey fought for a ball in the box and pushed it to Vigilant who then slipped it by Tufts' goalkeeper Matt Sullivan.
After holding back a strong Tufts team to no goals for the first 66 minutes, EC let one up, as forward Todd Gilbert collected a cross and pushed it by EC goalkeeper Colin Kemble. The game would stay tied until the 75 minute mark, when Kemble came flying out of his net to grab a loose ball, but Tufts forward Mattia Chason got his toe on it. The ball deflected off Kemble and rolled into the net for what turned out to be the winning goal.
The Gulls will continue conference play on Saturday at 2pm at Endicott Stadium.
