UMass-Dartmouth Blanks Endicott
Sept. 5, 2005
BEVERLY, MA -- Christian Da Silva (Lowell, MA/Lowell) had a goal and an assist to power UMass-Dartmouth past Endicott College, 3-0, Monday night at Endicott College.
Da Silva began the scoring less than twenty minutes into the first half and the visitors never looked back. The sophomore midfielder collected a loose ball inside the 18-yard line and beat Endicott sophomore goaltender Cam Twiss (Reading, MA/Bishop Fenwick) for a 1-0 UMD advantage.
The Corsairs (1-2) doubled the lead with less than 10 minutes remaining in the half when sophomore Robert Harvey (Lakeville, MA/Apponequet) set up sophomore Chris Bernardo (Raymond, NH/Peabody) for a one-touch goal from inside the six-yard line.
Senior Tiago Pinto (New Bedford, MA/New Bedford Vocational) increased the cushion to 3-0 seven minutes into the second half with a breakaway goal to the short side of the net. Da Silva's through pass sent Pinto in alone.
The Gulls (0-2) fired 14 shots (6 on goal) in the game and had their chances in the second half but could not break through goaltender Kyle Fossey (Townsend, MA/ North Middlesex). Fossey's best save came with 34 minutes to play when he turned away Endicott senior Daniel Duvernoy (Hamilton, NY/Hamilton) on a blast from inside the box.
Senior defender Eitan Bendesky (Mexico City, Mexico/Colegio Israelita) and Kyle Austin (Keene, NH/Keene) played well for Endicott, which will look to rebound Wednesday night as it travels to Salem State College at 7:00 P.M.
