Men's soccer blanked by Gordon

Wenham, Mass. - Freshman Andrew Vandervoort scored twice in a period of less than 2 minutes to spark Gordon's 3-0 victory over visiting Endicott on Thursday afternoon. The win moves Gordon to 5-4-2 overall and 4-1-1 in The Commonwealth Coast Conference. Endicott drops to 2-7-1 and is 2-4 in league play.
After a sluggish first 15 minutes Gordon began to intensify their offensive pressure and it paid off in the 20th minute on Vandervoort's first goal. The freshman snuck in on Gulls' goalkeeper \#Daniel Higgins\# (Kingstown, R.I.) and blocked the keeper's attempt to clear the ball. The deflection bounced back towards the net and Vandervoort beat Higgins to the ball and tapped it into the net for a 1-0 lead.
Only moments later, Joel Spruance made a nice run down the left wing and lofted a cross towards the back post. Vandervoort beat Higgins and an Endicott defender to the loose ball and scored again, putting Gordon up 2-0.
The Scots nearly scored again at the end of the half but Chase Beech's shot from close range rang off the right post.
Gordon continued to carry the play in the second half and junior Archie Reed sealed the match in the 70th minute, when he received a pass from Spruance and found the open net to put Gordon up 3-0.
Endicott had their best scoring opportunity of the match in the 84th minute when \#Chris Serpa\#'s (Bristol, R.I.) header off of a corner kick clanged off the cross bar. Alex Sosler made 3 saves to post the shutout. Higgins had 7 saves for Endicott. Gordon outshot Endicott 21-9 overall and held a 6-2 edge in corner kicks.
The Scots will celebrate Homecoming Weekend on Saturday, October 9, with a crucial 2:30 p.m. matchup with Nichols. Endicott will play at Regis on October 9 at 3:00 p.m.
