SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Endicott junior Olivier Joggi
(Stoneham, Mass.) has been named the Commonwealth Coast Conference
(CCC) men’s tennis player of the week, announced Tuesday by
Commissioner Gregg M. Kaye. This is the first CCC men’s
tennis award of the season for the Gulls.
Joggi helped the Gulls sweep a pair of CCC contests with 9-0
victories over Wentworth and Western New England. He posted records
of 2-0 from both the \#1 singles and \#1 doubles spot. From the \#1
doubles positions, Joggi paired with Jake Cohen to tally a pair of
8-2 victories.
In singles, he opened the week with a victory against Wentworth in
sets of 6-3 and 6-1 at the \#1 singles slot. Against Western New
England, Joggi played in a tough first singles match, the only
singles match that went to three sets between the Golden Bears and
Gulls. Joggi took the first set 7-6 in a 7-5 tiebreak, but
WNE’s Chris Holzinger came back for a 6-1 victory in the
second set. Not giving up, despite the fact that the match was in
hand for Endicott, Joggi was victorious 10-5 in a tiebreaker to
ensure the clean sweep for the Gulls.
Joggi has a 6-5 record at first singles this year and has a
combined 7-5 record when he pairs with a teammate at the first
doubles spot.
The Gulls are back in action this afternoon as they travel to
non-conference foe Wheaton College for a 4:00 pm match.
